- Tissue-protection research

ARA-290 is not yet in the evidence datasets this site draws on, so this page makes no claim about what it does.

## What is ARA-290

ARA-290 (also known as cibinetide) is a peptide derived from the region of erythropoietin (EPO) that binds the tissue-protective, or innate repair, receptor. In cell and animal studies (Brines 2008, PNAS), peptides of this kind were tissue-protective without stimulating red blood cell production. Browse the full [peptide library](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/peptides) for related compounds.

In people, ARA-290 has been studied in small human trials: one in patients with sarcoidosis and symptoms of small fiber neuropathy (Heij 2012, Mol Med), and one in patients with type 2 diabetes that reported improvements in metabolic control and neuropathic symptoms (Brines 2015, Mol Med). A 2013 review (Niesters et al.) covers the sarcoidosis neuropathic pain research. These are small studies, and ARA-290 is not in the evidence datasets this site draws on.

## How it works

Innate repair receptor: ARA-290 was engineered to act on the tissue-protective (innate repair) receptor rather than the EPO receptor that drives red blood cell production. This design rests on cell and animal work (Brines 2008).

Tissue protection: in the same cell and animal studies, activating the tissue-protective receptor was associated with protection of tissue from injury. These are animal and cell findings.

## On the ground in the Philippines

ARA-290 (cibinetide) had no Philippine drug registration in the FDA Philippines registered drug products database when it was checked on 7 May 2026.

## Benefits studied

ARA-290 is not yet in the evidence datasets this site draws on, so this page makes no claim about what it does. Anything published about it elsewhere should be read with its evidence level in mind: most peptides in this category have animal or cell data only.

## Side effects reported

No controlled human data on adverse events for ARA-290 is in the datasets this site draws on, so its safety in people is unknown rather than established. Effects commonly described for it are listed below; how often they occur has not been measured in a controlled trial.

- Injection site reactions

- Headache

- Fatigue

- Dizziness

- Elevated blood pressure

## Regulatory status

The regulatory dataset this site draws on has no row for ARA-290.

## Who should not use ARA-290

Do not use if

- Active cancer

- History of thromboembolic disease

- Pregnancy or breastfeeding

- Severe hypertension

## FAQ

### Is ARA-290 the same as EPO (erythropoietin)?

No. ARA-290 is a peptide engineered from a small region of the EPO molecule. In cell and animal studies (Brines 2008, PNAS), peptides of this kind acted on the tissue-protective receptor without stimulating red blood cell production.

### Has ARA-290 been studied in diabetic neuropathy?

Yes. A small human trial in patients with type 2 diabetes (Brines 2015, Mol Med) reported improvements in metabolic control and neuropathic symptoms. It is a small study, and ARA-290 is not in the evidence datasets this site draws on, so no trial figure is shown on this page.

### What evidence exists for ARA-290?

Small human trials plus cell and animal work. The sources cited on this page are a trial in sarcoidosis patients with small fiber neuropathy symptoms (Heij 2012), a trial in type 2 diabetes with neuropathic symptoms (Brines 2015), a review of the sarcoidosis neuropathic pain research (Niesters 2013) and the cell and animal work behind its design (Brines 2008).

### Sourcing peptides in the Philippines

Primara Labs, our partner and supplier, ships from inventory already inside the Philippines, so there is no customs leg: vials are batch-numbered, Metro Manila orders dispatch same day, the rest of the country lands in 1 to 5 business days, and the store lists 10% off every order. The current list sits on one page, and anything you cannot see on it goes through the same WhatsApp thread.

The supply index covers what to ask a seller before paying, and why quoted prices vary so widely.
