The strongest evidence found for Selank comes from small human studies, and every finding below carries its evidence level.

## What is Selank

Selank is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro), an analogue of the human tetrapeptide tuftsin, developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia. [Semax](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/peptides/semax) is another Russian-developed synthetic peptide covered on this site. Browse the full [peptide library](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/peptides) for related compounds.

The human evidence for selank is small Russian comparative studies in anxiety disorders against benzodiazepines, with no placebo arm and random allocation not stated in the abstracts. The literature is mostly in Russian, and the evidence review behind this page read only the English abstracts.

## How it works

GABA receptors: in receptor binding assays on brain cell membranes, selank acted as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA binding. This has not been confirmed in human pharmacology studies.

Enkephalins: in human plasma in the test tube, selank inhibited the breakdown of enkephalins in a dose-dependent way. This has not been confirmed in human pharmacology studies.

## Benefits studied

- Anxiety symptoms against a benzodiazepine: Small human studies A Russian comparison in 62 patients with generalised anxiety disorder or neurasthenia found selank and medazepam had similar effects on anxiety scales; there was no placebo arm and allocation is not described. - Benzodiazepine side effects as an add-on: Small human studies A Russian study of 70 patients with anxiety-spectrum disorders reported fewer phenazepam side effects when selank was added, against phenazepam alone, with no placebo arm. - GABA receptor modulation: Animal and cell In receptor-binding assays on brain cell membranes, selank acted as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA binding. This is laboratory evidence only. [Source: Protein Pept Lett 2018](https://doi.org/10.2174/0929866525666180925144642)

- Enkephalinase inhibition: Animal and cell In human plasma in the test tube, selank slowed the breakdown of enkephalins in a dose-dependent way. This is laboratory evidence only. [Source: Bull Exp Biol Med 2001](https://doi.org/10.1023/a:1017979514274)

## Side effects reported

No human trial in the datasets reports adverse-event rates for Selank, whose human evidence is limited to small human studies with no completed randomised trial identified. Without controlled data, its safety in people is unknown rather than established.

## Selank in the Philippines

A search of the FDA Verification Portal on 23 September 2026 returned no registered drug product for selank. Selank is therefore not a medicine that a Philippine pharmacist can dispense, whatever its status elsewhere, because section 11(a) of RA 3720 as amended by RA 9711 prohibits the manufacture, importation, sale, distribution, promotion or advertising of any health product that is unregistered, adulterated or misbranded. No FDA Philippines advisory in this site's regulation dataset, checked 23 September 2026, names selank.

In practice, selank is sold here as a research-grade vial. Primara Labs, our partner and supplier, lists it as "Lyophilized powder, 10 mg / vial", the same format it lists for [semax](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/peptides/semax), the other neuropeptide on this site studied mainly in Russia. The legal research behind this site found no Philippine FDA, DOH, BOC or DDB document that addresses products labelled research use only.

For research context, anyone reading about selank in English meets a literature that is mostly Russian. The evidence dataset read only English abstracts and found no study meeting its randomised-trial rule: the human work is small comparative studies in anxiety disorders against benzodiazepines, with no placebo arm and random allocation not stated. That is a thin base, and the page above rates it accordingly. The [status page](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/legal/status) tracks selank alongside the other research compounds.

## Regulatory status

**FDA Philippines**

- No registered drug product found on the FDA verification portal.

**US FDA**

- No record found Drugs@FDA returned no approved or tentatively approved application for this substance. Drugs@FDA does not list investigational products. Separately, the FDA lists it on its page of bulk drug substances for compounding that may present significant safety risks (current as of 22 April 2026); that page concerns compounding, not approval.

**European Medicines Agency**

- No record found No row for this substance in the EMA medicines report generated 22 September 2026. That report does not cover national authorisations in EU member states.

**Next milestone**

- No sponsor identified in any record read.

## FAQ

### Can you buy selank at a Philippine pharmacy?

No. A search of the FDA Verification Portal on 23 September 2026 returned no registered drug product for selank. Section 11(a) of RA 3720 as amended by RA 9711 prohibits the manufacture, importation, sale, distribution, promotion or advertising of any health product that is unregistered, adulterated or misbranded. This is general information, not legal advice.

### Where does the selank research come from?

Mostly from Russia. No study meeting the randomised-trial rule was found; the literature is mostly Russian and only English abstracts were read. Small Russian comparative studies in anxiety disorders against benzodiazepines (n=60 to 70), with no placebo arm and random allocation not stated in the abstracts.

### Can selank be brought into the Philippines from abroad?

Selank has no registered drug product in the Philippines. DOH-FDA-BOC Joint Circular No. 1, dated 22 June 2015, lets travellers bring listed FDA-regulated products into the Philippines without prior FDA clearance if the products are for personal use and within set limits. For prescription drugs, Joint Circular No. 1 sets the allowed quantity as the amount stated on a prescription that carries the physician's PRC licence number or a foreign equivalent. Joint Circular No. 1 does not say whether its prescription-drug allowance covers drugs without a Philippine CPR. No FDA circular that answers this was found. The Bureau of Customs lists pharmaceutical products as regulated imports that require a valid Certificate of Product Registration and/or an FDA License to Operate as importer. This is general information, not legal advice.

### How does selank compare with benzodiazepines?

The human comparisons in the evidence dataset this site draws on are small Russian studies against the benzodiazepines medazepam and phenazepam, with no placebo arm; their findings are set out under Benefits studied. No study in that dataset measured dependence or withdrawal, so this page makes no claim that selank avoids them.

### What evidence exists for selank?

The evidence dataset this site draws on (checked 2026-09-23) rates selank at the level "Small human studies", with 0 completed human randomised controlled trials identified. Small Russian comparative studies in anxiety disorders against benzodiazepines (n=60 to 70), with no placebo arm and random allocation not stated in the abstracts. It has been studied for: Generalised anxiety disorder and neurasthenia; anxiety-spectrum disorders alongside a benzodiazepine.

Findings, evidence levels and sources are from the Research Desk datasets published by [Primara Labs, our partner and supplier](https://www.primaralabs.com/research/evidence?utm_source=philippinespeptides&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline), synced 23 September 2026 and summarised here in this site’s own words.

Risk · Disclosure · Editorial Status

This page is editorial information for adults researching peptide therapy. It is not medical advice, not a prescription, and not an endorsement of any specific product, supplier, or protocol. Side effects can be serious and individual response varies. Talk to a licensed physician (ideally one with peptide-specific clinical experience) before starting any compound, adjusting a dose, or discontinuing therapy.

In the Philippines, GLP-1 medications are prescription-only under FDA Philippines regulation. Research-grade peptides occupy a regulatory gray area: import for personal research use is generally tolerated, but the Bureau of Customs reserves the right to inspect and detain shipments. Do not import for resale.
