Short answer

Tesamorelin is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue, approved in the US as Egrifta for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV lipodystrophy. In a phase 3 trial of 412 adults, visceral fat changed by -15.2% on tesamorelin, against +5% on placebo. As of 23 September 2026 it is not registered with FDA Philippines, and prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician.

Video guide: Tesamorelin in the Philippines: Trials, Status, Sourcing (2:10)

Searching for tesamorelin in the Philippines? Here is what it is, what its trials found, and its status here. Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone. It acts on the pituitary to raise the body's own growth hormone, which raises IGF-1. The US FDA approved it in 2010 as Egrifta, for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy. That approval covers that labelled use only. Its strongest evidence is phase 3 trials in adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation. They measured visceral fat, the fat around the abdominal organs, by CT scan. Smaller or earlier trials also looked at fatty liver in HIV, abdominal obesity with reduced growth hormone, and cognition in older adults. Reported side effects include injection site reactions, fluid retention, joint pain, tingling in the hands, and raised blood glucose. The EU application was withdrawn in 2012. In the Philippines, the FDA portal showed no registered tesamorelin product on 23 September. Egrifta is a prescription medicine. Prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician. Tesamorelin is also sold as a research vial: not a registered medicine, not approved for human use, and sold for research only. Our partner and supplier, Primara Labs, lists tesamorelin 10 mg at ₱3,390, or ₱2,076 per vial in a 10 pack. That is about ₱339 per mg, or ₱208 in a 10 pack. Every vial order includes bacteriostatic water, insulin syringes and alcohol pads. Primara stocks in Metro Manila, same day if you order by noon on a weekday. Provinces ship by J&T, and there is a 60-day money-back guarantee. Read the full tesamorelin guide on Philippines Peptides, then see tesamorelin at Primara Labs and order on WhatsApp.

The strongest evidence found for Tesamorelin comes from phase 3 human trials, and every finding below carries its evidence level.

## What is Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing factor (GHRH 1-44). The US FDA approved it on 10 November 2010 as Egrifta for reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adult patients with lipodystrophy; that approval covers the named branded medicine for its labelled use only. In the EU, the Egrifta application was withdrawn on 21 June 2012 and no marketing authorisation was granted. Egrifta is a prescription medicine, and prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician. Browse the full [peptide library](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/peptides) for related GH compounds.

The strongest evidence for tesamorelin is phase 3 human. Two completed phase 3 placebo-controlled trials in adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation (N Engl J Med 2007, n=412; J Acquir Immune Defic Syndr 2010, n=404). The findings of those trials, with their figures, are in the Benefits studied section below. For GLP-1 compounds studied for weight, see the [weight loss hub](https://www.philippinespeptides.com/weightloss).

Tesamorelin has also been studied in smaller or earlier trials for fatty liver disease in people with HIV, abdominal obesity with reduced growth hormone secretion, and cognition in older adults. The evidence level of each finding is stated where it appears.

## How it works

GHRH receptor: in human pharmacology studies, summarised in a 2014 Clinical Pharmacokinetics review, tesamorelin acts on the GHRH receptor in the pituitary to increase basal and pulsatile growth hormone secretion, which in turn raises IGF-1.

Visceral fat: visceral fat is the fat stored around the abdominal organs, as distinct from subcutaneous fat under the skin. In the phase 3 trials in adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation, visceral fat was measured by CT scan.

## Benefits studied

- Visceral fat reduction: Phase 3 human A 26-week phase 3 trial of 412 adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation measured a 15.2% fall in CT-measured visceral fat on tesamorelin, against a 5.0% rise on placebo. [Source: Falutz J et al. N Engl J Med 2007 (tesamorelin phase 3)](https://doi.org/10.1056/NEJMoa072375)

- Triglyceride reduction: Phase 3 human Pooled across its two 26-week phase 3 trials (806 adults with HIV and excess abdominal fat), triglycerides fell 37 mg/dL on tesamorelin and rose 6 mg/dL on placebo. [Source: Pooled phase 3 analysis, J Clin Endocrinol Metab 2010](https://doi.org/10.1210/jc.2010-0490)

- Cognition in older adults: Phase 2 human A 20-week phase 2 trial of 152 adults aged 55 to 87 reported a favourable effect on a cognitive composite, mostly executive function; two later trials in other groups found no significant effect. [Source: Arch Neurol 2012](https://doi.org/10.1001/archneurol.2012.1970)

- Liver fat reduction: Small human studies A 12-month randomised, placebo-controlled trial of 61 people with HIV and fatty liver disease, phase not stated, found liver fat fraction fell 4.1 percentage points more on tesamorelin than on placebo. ## Side effects reported

No human trial in the datasets reports adverse-event rates for Tesamorelin, whose human evidence is limited to phase 3 human (10 completed randomised trials identified). Without controlled data, its safety in people is unknown rather than established.

## What the trials found

In Tesamorelin phase 3 (Falutz, NEJM 2007), a 26-week phase 3 trial of 412 adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation (86% men), visceral adipose tissue changed by -15.2% on the 2 mg arm, against 5% on placebo. ## FAQ

### How does tesamorelin differ from CJC-1295?

### What is the difference between tesamorelin and HGH?

Tesamorelin is a GHRH analogue: it acts on the pituitary to increase the body's own growth hormone secretion, basal and pulsatile, which raises IGF-1. Recombinant human growth hormone is growth hormone itself, given directly. No trial comparing the two appears in the datasets this site draws on.

### What evidence exists for tesamorelin?

The evidence level for tesamorelin is phase 3 human. Completed human randomised controlled trials identified: 10 (Completed human RCTs identified and screened in Europe PMC). Studied for: Excess visceral fat in people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy, fatty liver disease in HIV, abdominal obesity with reduced growth hormone secretion, and cognition in older adults. Key source: Falutz J et al. N Engl J Med 2007.
