What therapeutic peptides actually are
Short chains of amino acids (typically 2 – 50 residues) designed to act on specific receptors or pathways and produce a measurable physiological effect. Insulin is a peptide. So is glucagon, oxytocin, and the GLP-1 family. They sit between small-molecule drugs and full proteins in size and function.
Different from cosmetic peptides (Argireline, copper peptides for topical skincare) which act at the skin surface. Therapeutic peptides are administered systemically — subcutaneous, intramuscular, or nasal spray — and act throughout the body. The full 32-peptide library covers all categories.
Legal status in the Philippines
FDA Philippines maintains a registry of approved medications. On the registry = registered prescription drug. Not on registry and not on controlled substance schedule = regulatory grey zone.
Branded GLP-1s (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy) are registered. Prescription required at licensed pharmacy.
Research-grade peptides (BPC-157, TB-500, retatrutide, GHK-Cu, etc.) sit in the grey zone. Not on Philippines's controlled substance list. Not internationally scheduled. Personal use is not criminalized. Full breakdown in the legality guide.
