PT-141

Bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist acting chiefly at MC3R and MC4R, studied in phase 3 trials in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

The strongest evidence found for PT-141 comes from phase 3 human trials, and every finding below carries its evidence level.

What is PT-141

PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic peptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone that acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, chiefly MC3R and MC4R. Melanotan II is another melanocortin agonist covered on this site. Browse the full peptide library for related compounds.

In the US, bremelanotide is the active ingredient in Vyleesi, which the US FDA approved in 2019 for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. That approval covers the branded medicine for its labelled use only, not a research-grade vial of the same substance. Bremelanotide is a prescription medicine, and prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician.

Its phase 3 evidence comes from RECONNECT (studies 301 and 302), two trials in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Earlier trials studied it in sexual arousal disorder and erectile dysfunction, and a phase 1 study measured body weight.

How it works

Melanocortin receptors: bremelanotide is an agonist at melanocortin receptors, chiefly MC3R and MC4R.

Sexual desire: investigators link MC4R agonism to its effects on sexual desire, the outcome measured in the RECONNECT phase 3 trials in premenopausal women.

Appetite: MC4R also regulates appetite, which is why bremelanotide was studied for food intake in a short phase 1 trial in women with obesity.

PT-141 in the Philippines

PT-141 is the research name for bremelanotide. In the United States the same molecule is an approved medicine, Vyleesi, approved for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. That approval covers the branded medicine for its labelled use only, never a research-grade vial of the same substance. This site has not published an FDA Philippines registration result for bremelanotide or Vyleesi: the 23 September 2026 portal search behind the regulation hub did not include the name, and the store's own search the same day timed out.

What circulates in the Philippines under the PT-141 name is the research-grade vial. Primara Labs, our partner and supplier, lists PT-141 as "Lyophilized powder, 10 mg / vial", and the sourcing card on this page links it. No FDA Philippines advisory in this site's regulation dataset, checked 23 September 2026, names PT-141 or bremelanotide. The legal research behind this site found no Philippine FDA, DOH, BOC or DDB document that addresses products labelled research use only.

For research context, PT-141 is one of the few compounds sold here as research vials with completed phase 3 trials behind it. The evidence dataset rates it phase 3 human, on the RECONNECT studies in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, and those trials are summarised under What the trials found above. Earlier work looked at sexual arousal disorder and erectile dysfunction; the dataset does not rate those as the basis for its level. None of this makes a research vial a treatment, and prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician. The status page tracks PT-141 with the other research compounds.

FAQ

Is PT-141 the same as Vyleesi?

Same molecule, different product. PT-141 is the research name for bremelanotide, which the US FDA approved as Vyleesi (for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women). The approval covers Vyleesi for its labelled use only, never a research-grade vial of the same substance.

Is Vyleesi registered in the Philippines?

This site has not published an FDA Philippines registration result for bremelanotide or Vyleesi: the 23 September 2026 portal search behind the regulation hub did not include the name, and the store's own search the same day timed out. Until that search is run, this site makes no claim either way.

Has FDA Philippines issued an advisory on PT-141?

No FDA Philippines advisory in this site's regulation dataset, checked 23 September 2026, names PT-141 or bremelanotide. For bringing PT-141 in from abroad, the rules are the general ones. DOH-FDA-BOC Joint Circular No. 1, dated 22 June 2015, lets travellers bring listed FDA-regulated products into the Philippines without prior FDA clearance if the products are for personal use and within set limits. For prescription drugs, Joint Circular No. 1 sets the allowed quantity as the amount stated on a prescription that carries the physician's PRC licence number or a foreign equivalent. Joint Circular No. 1 does not say whether its prescription-drug allowance covers drugs without a Philippine CPR. No FDA circular that answers this was found. The Bureau of Customs lists pharmaceutical products as regulated imports that require a valid Certificate of Product Registration and/or an FDA License to Operate as importer. This is general information, not legal advice.

Has PT-141 been studied in men?

The phase 3 evidence and the US approval (Vyleesi) are in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Earlier trials studied bremelanotide in sexual arousal disorder and erectile dysfunction, but the evidence dataset this site draws on carries no findings from those trials, so this page makes no claim about its effect in men.

What evidence exists for PT-141?

The evidence dataset this site draws on (checked 2026-09-23) rates bremelanotide (PT-141) at the level "Phase 3 human", with 9 completed human randomised controlled trials identified. Two identical completed phase 3 trials, RECONNECT studies 301 and 302 (Obstet Gynecol 2019; 1,267 premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder). It has been studied for: Hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women; earlier, sexual arousal disorder and erectile dysfunction; body weight in a phase 1 study.

What is the regulatory status of PT-141?

FDA Philippines: Could not be established: the FDA Philippines verification portal search timed out on 23 September 2026, retried the same day in a browser with the same result. US FDA: Approved for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. Prescribing belongs with a licensed Philippine physician. Status for every compound the dataset covers is on the regulatory status page.
