Trulicity Philippines: Price and Use

Trulicity is Eli Lilly's brand for dulaglutide, a once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist delivered by subcutaneous injection from a single-use pre-filled pen. Structurally it is a fusion protein rather than a modified peptide of the semaglutide type, which is part of why its pharmacology differs from its better-known classmates.

Trulicity's prescribing information gives type 2 diabetes mellitus as its indication. It carries no weight-management indication, and the Southstar Drug product page read on 23 September 2026 marks it prescription required.

So use for weight alone is off-label. What that means is that the regulator has not evaluated dulaglutide for weight management, the manufacturer cannot promote it for weight management, and responsibility for the decision sits with the prescriber rather than with a label. Within the same family, Wegovy and Saxenda are the products whose labels carry a weight-management indication.

Format is the one place dulaglutide stands out in its class.

Trulicity comes as a single-use pre-filled pen containing one weekly dose. There is no dial, no dose counter and no needle to attach in the usual sense, because the needle sits hidden inside the device. Once it has been used, the pen is finished and discarded. That is a simpler device than a multi-dose dialled pen.

Storage is the ordinary cold-chain story for this class: refrigerated, protected from light, not frozen, with a limited room-temperature window on the label. Courier handling outside the pharmacy chain is the real risk to that cold chain.

For weight, the clearest evidence on dulaglutide against semaglutide is a head to head trial rather than forum opinion.

SUSTAIN 7, a phase 3b trial in adults with type 2 diabetes over 40 weeks, compared once-weekly semaglutide against once-weekly dulaglutide at two dose pairings: semaglutide 0.5 mg against dulaglutide 0.75 mg, and semaglutide 1.0 mg against dulaglutide 1.5 mg. Semaglutide produced the larger mean body weight reduction at both pairings. Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most commonly reported in both drugs' arms.

Victoza and Saxenda are both liraglutide. Same active molecule, same 6mg per mL pre-filled pen, same once-daily use. What separates them is the label: Victoza's indication is type 2 diabetes and Saxenda's is weight management, with different label dose ranges. Two labels, two indications, two prices, one molecule.

Because the pens look alike and the concentration matches, the two can look interchangeable. They are not: the products carry different labels, different dose ranges and different indications, and a prescription is written against one of them. Trulicity is prescription only in the Philippines, and the Southstar Drug product page read on 23 September 2026 says so. A prescription from a licensed Philippine physician is the condition of dispensing.

Under RA 9711 a drug must be registered with FDA Philippines before it is imported, sold or distributed; the detail is in the regulation hub.
